Privacy policy
Effective 28 October 2026
This policy covers the somesay iPhone app, including its Share extension and widgets, and the website getsomesay.com. somesay is made by Dmytro Tkachuk. Contact: support@getsomesay.com.
In short
somesay has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Your articles, generated audio and listening progress stay on your iPhone. I don’t receive, sell or share your personal data.
What the app keeps on your iPhone
- Articles you paste or share to somesay, with source details such as title, author, web address and dates, and the original text when cleanup changes it.
- Titles, covers, generated speech audio, listening position, queue, Played state and settings such as voice, engine and speed.
- A short summary of recent articles (titles, dates and progress) used by somesay widgets.
This data is stored in somesay’s private storage on your device. Your library may be included in iCloud Backup or computer backups you turn on, which Apple manages. Downloaded voice files and generated audio are excluded from backups.
Processing on your iPhone
Text cleanup, title suggestions (the on-device Apple Intelligence model, when available) and speech, with Apple voices or the optional downloadable voice, all run on your iPhone. Article text is never sent to me or to any AI service.
When somesay connects to the internet
- Optional voice download. If you choose the downloadable voice, somesay downloads about 550 MB of model files hosted by Hugging Face (huggingface.co). The request contains no article content and no identifier created by somesay. Like any web server, Hugging Face receives your IP address and basic device and network information under its own privacy policy. After the download, listening works offline.
- Links you open. Opening an article’s source or author opens Safari, where that website’s policy applies.
- Apple services. App Store, Siri, Shortcuts, widgets, Apple Intelligence and system voices are provided by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Apple gives me aggregated App Store statistics such as downloads and, only from people who choose to share analytics with app developers, usage data and crash reports that do not identify you.
Website
getsomesay.com is a static website hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver and protect the site. I use Plausible Analytics, hosted in the EU, to count visits in aggregate. It sets no cookies, doesn’t store your IP address and builds no profile of you.
Emails
If you email me, I use your address and message only to reply. I delete correspondence within 12 months after it is resolved, or sooner on request.
Sharing and selling
I don’t sell or share personal data and don’t use it for advertising. Because the app doesn’t send your data to me, no third party holds it on my behalf.
Your choices
- Delete an article in somesay to remove its text and audio.
- Remove the downloaded voice in Settings > Models.
- Deleting somesay removes all of its data from your iPhone; backups follow your backup settings.
- To access or delete emails you sent me, write to support@getsomesay.com.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or a similar jurisdiction, you may access, correct or delete personal data I hold (in practice, only support emails), object to processing and complain to your data protection authority. My legal basis for handling support emails is my legitimate interest in answering you.
Children
somesay is not directed to children, and I don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
I’ll post changes on this page with a new effective date. If a change affects what leaves your device, I’ll update the App Store privacy details and mention it in the release notes.
